Four former Folsom Cordova Unified School District students are suing the district for failing to act on reports of sexual abuse against multiple students under age 14 by teacher Steven Richard Kester between 1998 and 2021. In a civil suit filed in Sacramento, the students are suing the California school district, claiming administrators were negligent for failing to report suspected child sexual abuse nor taking action against Kester.
Kester was employed with the district as a physical education teacher from 1976 to 2012 and as a substitute teacher from 2012 to 2021 when he was arrested on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts against a minor child under 14. According to the suit, Kester was a known offender, referred to as ‘Kester the Molester’ by students due to his pervasive and inappropriate touching.
Kester is being held without bail in the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center in Elk Grove after failing to appear for a court hearing on the abuse charges and a four-hour standoff with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
